Care providers from all over Northamptonshire will be at Workbridge on 10 May, for a special information event.
Ideally suited for those who have, or are supporting the care of people with, mental illness, learning disabilities, autism or brain injuries, the event will provide an opportunity for people to find out about activities and day services available in the county. All exhibitors have the aim of supporting people to increase their confidence, gain social skills, and uncover new hobbies and interests.
From residential units to support services, information on a wide range of specialised services will be available, with people on hand to discuss opportunities with visitors. Exhibitors at the event include Northamptonshire County Council, Spectrum Northants, Mentaur Group, Northamptonshire Carers and Olympus Care.
Lynn Whenmouth, Service Manager at Workbridge, explained: “As well as providing a chance to visit Workbridge’s unique environment – where our service users develop their skills in a supported setting – this special event will also welcome other providers from across the region.
"Together we will be able to offer attendees advice around accessing vocational development and support services, as well as advise school leavers on the ‘next steps’ open to them. Everyone is welcome, and we’re a friendly bunch at Workbridge; we look forward to welcoming you.”
This year’s event, which starts at 3pm, will be opened by BBC Radio Northampton’s John Griff.
John explained: "I'm delighted to be opening Workbridge's forthcoming Open Day event. As well as reporting on the great work that goes on there, I've also been able to highlight some of the successes that Workbridge service users have achieved - one example of which being their participation in national gardening shows and competitions. As a consumer I'm delighted to have had some of my own photographic work exhibited in the NN Gallery - having first had it canvas printed to the highest standards by Workbridge service users.
“We live in a 24/7 information technology age - it's vital that every member in our community is able to access the kinds of activities and services that make life better, regardless of their background or day to day realities. This event is not only about signposting though - it's about enablement too. I'm sure it'll be a tremendous day for all concerned - come along and join us!"
