Patients within Lowther, our Dementia village, yesterday enjoyed a summer beach party held in the courtyard garden.
The people in our care enjoyed a sunny morning of live music, beach games, singing and dancing, before enjoying ice creams and other goodies. The colourful garden was decorated with beach towels, buckets and spades, and staff and patients took the time to pet two very special guests, donkeys Dermot and Charlie.
Bianca Bhathal, Service Manager, explained: "I am quite new to St Andrew's and I really enjoyed seeing everyone enjoy today's summer beach party. These are the kind of events and patient-centred activities the Dementia village wants to encourage and facilitate, and we are looking forward to more events like this over the coming months."
Our Lowther Dementia village enables people living with Dementia to live well and undertake various social and interactive activities. The village is based on a concept from the Netherlands, and aims to ensure that patients experience activities throughout their journey with Dementia, while keeping close links with the community.
