Stonewall Equality Index
Posted on Jan 31 2018 by Bobbie Kelly
We've proud to share that we’ve been named one of Britain’s most inclusive employers in the 2018 Stonewall Equality Index.
Our charity has achieved 86th position in the exclusive index of Top 100 employers, based on an annual audit of workplace culture from the perspectives of lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff.
The list is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a powerful benchmarking tool that compares more than 400 UK employers. Now in its 13th year, the Index celebrates the pioneering efforts of leading organisations to create inclusive workplaces. St Andrew’s has now appeared on the list in three consecutive years.
Martin Kersey, HR Director, explained:“I am very proud to see that this year we made the Stonewall Top 100 Employers list. This year, for the first time, the Index looked at what employers were doing for trans equality in the workplace. It is an issue we have openly discussed at St Andrew’s Healthcare, our colleagues have shared their personal transitioning and patients continue to talk to us about this in their care plans and outcomes. It’s a critical issue in today’s diversity agenda and will play an equal part in our drive to create an inclusive environment for all our colleagues and patients without exception.”
Darren Towers, Executive Director at Stonewall said: “St Andrew’s and all those who have made this year’s Top 100 Employers list have done a fantastic job. Taking part in our Index shows real commitment to understanding and advancing LGBT equality. This year, for the first time, the Index looked at what employers were doing for trans equality in the workplace. This work is crucial. We recently published LGBT in Britain: Trans Report, which revealed the profound inequality facing trans people in Britain today. Half of trans people have hidden their identity at work for fear of discrimination. This must change and it’s encouraging to see so many organisations make a commitment to trans equality. With their support and hard work we can create a world where all lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees are welcomed and accepted without exception.”
