#100ThousandHours of volunteering
Posted on Jun 26 2018 by Bobbie Kelly
Staff from M J Mapp, a property management company with an office in Birmingham, recently made a difference by volunteering with St Andrew’s staff and patients during a volunteering day.
Eight staff from M J Mapp took a break from their day jobs and visited St Andrew’s Birmingham, which provides care for patients with some of the most complex, challenging mental health needs in the UK.
The volunteers helped to clean sports equipment and sort the creative arts area, and the most green-fingered of the group helped to pot up some garden pots with colourful plants.
Dawn Wright, St Andrew’s Voluntary Services Manager, explained: “St Andrew’s supports mental health patients from a variety of cultures and backgrounds from all over the UK, as such we try and encourage support from individuals, local businesses and community groups to match our diverse staff and patient group.
“We have been welcoming businesses to our Northampton site for a number of years now, however this is the first time we have been able to welcome a company to our Birmingham site and we are delighted that a team from M J Mapp chose to be our first Voluntary Business Partners for the day. The activities they helped with will make a real and measurable difference to our patients and our services. Our staff team and patients really enjoyed the time they spent with the volunteers, and appreciate the time and effort they put into the day.”
Nic Fletcher, Office Manager for M J Mapp was positive about the experience, commenting: “I am glad we were able to help and we all enjoyed the day.”
Together with partners Northampton Mind, Samaritans Northampton, The Lowdown and the Hope Centre, over the next 12 months St Andrew’s aim to achieve a combined 100,000 hours of volunteering. If you are an individual, a business, a community group, or a team of friends and you would like to pledge your time to make a difference to the lives of people in need, all you have to do is sign up and donate some hours of volunteering with any of the campaign partners.
