A Ward Manager based in Low Secure who “leads by example” has been named a winner of the prestigious Cavell Star.

Jodie Johnson, who oversees Spencer South which is located in Spencer House, was nominated by the ward’s CNL Anthony Ndekwe.

The awards, hosted by the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, are for individuals who go above and beyond in their job and provide excellent care to their patients.

On Thursday, the triumphante for the service Dominic Kwofie, Ana-Maria Ilea and Keira White gathered with the rest of the ward team to officially present Jodie with her prize.

Dominic, who is the Service Director for Low Secure, said: “This is absolutely well deserved and we’re thrilled to have Jodie – who is so dedicated to her job – part of our team.”

Anthony added: “Jodie is a breath of fresh air. She leads by example, constantly goes above and beyond and she’s an extremely compassionate and supportive leader. She has built up some incredible therapeutic relationships with the patients and we are very lucky to have her.”

Senior Healthcare Assistant Miranda Thornhill said: “Jodie is always very active on the ward and the patients are her number one priority. She’s always willing to muck in to support and would never ask anyone to do a job that she wouldn’t be prepared to do herself.”

Jodie, who was also given a huge bunch of flowers, said: “While it’s very nice to be recognised, what we do is really teamwork, so although I really appreciate the award, it’s for everyone who works on the ward.”
