Jackson Maziva, who oversees Berry ward located at FitzRoy, has been shortlisted for a Frontline Leaders prize at the Great British Care Awards.
The awards programme was created to celebrate excellence across the care sector and to pay tribute to individuals who repeatedly go above and beyond within their field of work.
Jackson took over as Berry ward manager in February and since then all mandatory training now sits at 100% - the best in the entire division. Additionally, clinical supervision is also at 100% and has been maintained since March.
Quality Matron Lindelwa Sibanda, who nominated Jackson, for this award, said: “As a ward manager, Jackson consistently demonstrates what it means to lead from the front. His hands-on approach and proactive attitude have made a significant impact on both the ward’s performance and team morale. Whether it's stepping in to assist during busy shifts or guiding staff through challenging situations, Jackson is always present and ready to offer his support.
“What truly sets him apart is his ability to inspire and uplift his team. He fosters a culture of collaboration, where every member feels valued and empowered. His mentorship has helped many junior staff members grow in confidence and competence, and his open-door policy ensures that every concern is heard and addressed promptly. Under his leadership, the ward not only runs efficiently but is also a positive, supportive environment for both staff and patients.
“In addition to his compassionate leadership, Jackson is forward-thinking, always seeking ways to improve processes and patient care. He embraces innovation and encourages his team to think critically about how they can enhance the services they provide. His commitment to continuous improvement has resulted in better patient outcomes and an enhanced experience for those in his care.”
Jackson’s dedication has also attracted the attention of Provider Collaborative IMPACT, which asked that he be nominated for a CARE award.
IMPACT said: “His attitude, transparency and determination to make improvements on his ward for his staff team and for the patients is commendable. The team as a whole are clearly open to feedback and they have taken swift action to try to rectify any areas identified. This provides us with great assurance that patients are being well cared for and are in a safe and supportive environment.”
LDA’s Service Director Dean Robinson added: “Jackson is an exceptional leader who truly embodies the spirit of teamwork and excellence. His dedication to leading from the front, coupled with his ability to bring his team along with him, makes him a perfect candidate for this award. He is not only a leader but an inspiration to everyone who has the privilege of working alongside him. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend Jackson for this well-deserved recognition.”
