The Role and Person

Applications are invited from Occupational Therapists for this rewarding position, which will see you working with our patients who present with a complex range of needs. The post offers full time hours and is based in Basildon, Essex.

The Occupational Therapy team is part of an ever changing, organic service, seeking out new ideas to meld with established practice. Throughout the Charity Occupational Therapists strive to deliver the best treatment interventions in collaboration with our patient group. Evidencing and researching the professional impact is actively promoted, with a growing recognition of the relevance of occupational science in underpinning our practice.

We work with a range of patients, presenting with complex conditions including physical, behavioural and cognitive needs. We value working with the whole person, focusing on consolidation of core OT skills, with the clear potential to move on towards developing specialist skills including Sensory Integration and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy. Knowledge of Vona Du Toit’s Model Of Creative Ability will be an advantage.

As a registered OT you would be joining a highly motivated, knowledgeable and innovative OT team. Experience will be gained as part of a multi-disciplinary team, taking responsibility for a clinical caseload, and offering OT specific assessment and treatment to groups and individuals within your care. Strong communication skills are essential, both written and verbal, with the ability to develop good professional relationships with members of the MDT, as well as community partners that provides vocational skills training and development.

As an employee of St Andrews you will hold an inclusive and ‘can do’ attitude in approaching your work seeking to offer Occupational Therapy to all patients within our care. You will demonstrate good understanding of OT within secure services, including an application of risk assessment skills. In sharing your experience of applying the OT process, you should also emphasise how you promote our specialism as a profession.

You will have opportunity to undertake a comprehensive OT induction package, as well as a full preceptorship programme through your first 12 months including monthly clinical supervision from a registered OT. Continued professional development is encouraged, with access to a range of in-house CPD events, as well as an expectation to support the development and training of OT students. Further opportunities include networking opportunities with colleagues of the same and different grades within the service and wider Charity, as well as community partners. This affords opportunities offering an extensive grounding for your development as a dynamic and innovative Occupational Therapy practitioner.
