Our Board

Chair

Steve brings over 40 years of experience in healthcare and business leadership. Most recently, he served for nine years as Chief Executive Officer of Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest healthcare charity, before stepping down in 2024. 

Under Steve’s stewardship, Nuffield Health was recognised as an industry leader in quality by national regulators, and doubled in size both in terms of reach, revenue and also in levels of public benefit delivered. 

Steve was appointed as Chair of St Andrew’s Healthcare in December 2025.

Non-Executive Director

Anne-Maria is a retired Executive Director of Nursing and Deputy CEO. She has worked in many sectors across healthcare including mental health, community and acute hospital care. 

Anne-Maria was awarded a Florence Nightingale Leadership award and a travel scholarship which enabled her to learn from major institutions around the world on best practice for nursing care. She was also awarded a Churchill Fellowship and travelled to New Zealand to look at integrated care including End of Life Care and Compassion in Practice. Anne-Maria was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Honours in 2018 for service to Nursing and Chairs our Quality and Safety Committee.

Non-Executive Director

Sheryl qualified as a chartered accountant, specialising in external and technology audit before joining the retail banking sector in 1996. Her roles have covered internal audit, risk management and compliance at Barclays, Lloyds and Santander banks as well as Nationwide and Coventry building societies.  

She has been an independent non-executive director since 2018 and chairs the audit committee at RCI Bank and the risk committee at DF Capital Bank.

Non-Executive Director

Ruth has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. She is currently Chair of the Warwickshire Rural Housing Association and a Council Member at Keele University. Ruth comes from a Local Authority background where she was a Chief Executive. She brings wider experience in housing, and higher education and is now keen on complementing that with experience in the healthcare sector.

Non-Executive Director

Richard has over 30 years’ experience working within the Human Resources environment with a core focus on Change, Transformation, Systems and Industrial Relations. Working previously in UK and European roles, sector experience includes, Retail, Global Freight and Logistics, Higher Education, Manufacturing and Not for Profit. In his current Executive capacity Richard is Chief People Officer at the House of Commons. Richard is our Non-Executive Director for People and also sits on the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Non-Executive Director

Chris brings over 30 years of leadership experience across healthcare services, pharmacy, pharmaceutical distribution and clinical infrastructure in the UK and internationally.  

He is Group Chief Executive at Mawdsleys, a UK-based pharmaceutical services provider. It is the largest independent distributor into NHS Hospitals and one of the UK’s largest importer of unlicensed medicines playing a critical role in keeping medicines moving across the UK.   

Prior to this, Chris served as Group Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, the UK market leader in clinical infrastructure for the NHS alongside an international business that included Europe, Australia and New Zealand. 

From 2016 to Dec 2022 Chris held executive board roles at Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest healthcare charity, as Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Customer Officer, responsible for enterprise strategy, M&A, commercial performance, customer experience and corporate affairs.

Non-Executive Director

Caroline Smith brings extensive clinical and operational experience across a broad range of regulated healthcare services. 

She has held several senior board-level roles, including Chief Quality and Operating Officer at Nuffield Health, and is a Partner at Management Solutions for Healthcare. In this role, she worked in consultancy and interim management roles with the boards of organisations such as Healthcare at Home, A.S. Watson, Pennine Acute NHS Hospitals Trust and Sidra Medicine, Qatar.
