This week is Carers Week, mental health charity St Andrew’s Healthcare raised awareness by a holding a carers event in Northampton for our patients families and friends.

Carers Week is a national campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities.

This year’s focus is building Carer Friendly Communities which support carers to look after loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.

Carers found out more about our services and two carers shared their personal experiences of looking after a daughter with learning disabilities and a son with personality disorder.

There were lots of stalls including patient artwork, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care, visitor accommodation, education and flower making.

Carers were given the opportunity to sample patient meals and specialist meals which are used for patients who have difficulty swallowing and were pampered by the Beauty Therapist team with free treatments.

Sophia Feurtado, Head of Patient Experience said, “It’s so important to raise awareness of the role of carers. The event was a great opportunity for carers to learn more about St Andrew’s and come together and support each other.”
